Adam Driver shared an update on Michael Mann after the director’s accidental shooting.

The actor says Mann was back at work the next day.

Driver also confirmed that he will reunite with Mann for Heat 2.

A little accidental shooting isn’t going to stop Michael Mann from working on Heat 2.

On Saturday, the filmmaking legend was hospitalized after shooting himself in the leg as he went to holster his weapon at a Los Angeles gun range. Mann’s Ferrari star Adam Driver provided an update on the director’s health on Wednesday, while also confirming that the duo will reunite on the highly anticipated Heat sequel.

“He’s good,” Driver shared of Mann on The Rich Eisen Show. “I texted him immediately, he responded, and he was at work the next day.”

Driver added of the accident, “He’s done that same motion 20,000 times, he used to shoot competitively, so I’m not sure exactly what happened.”

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly on Saturday, a representative for Mann said that he suffered a “superficial injury” and that he was being “treated” and released.

Mann’s incident comes as he gears up to finally shoot Heat 2. The 1995 original starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro is a heist classic, and Mann first followed up the events of the film with his and Meg Gardiner’s 2022 novel Heat 2, which served as both a prequel and sequel. The writer-director has been working for years to get the book adapted for the big screen, and he’ll get his wish when production begins at the top of 2027.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Stephen Graham have all reportedly been cast, with them likely taking on the roles originated by Val Kilmer, Pacino, and De Niro. After long being rumored to be a part of the project, Driver confirmed his participation on Wednesday, revealing that he’ll be playing the juiciest new character: book antagonist Otis Wardell.

“I’m excited to get into it,” Driver said. “The cast is so awesome... As a script, it’s even more condensed and streamlined [than the novel]. The film is a missile.”

And Mann is bouncing back so strongly from his injury that Driver says the filmmaker will be taking him to some locations on Friday that are related to the script. Clearly, for Mann, the action is the juice!
