And Still! Rey Fenix Keeps the AAA Title After Ricky Saints’ Challenge on SmackDown

Rey Fenix put the AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the line against “Absolute” Ricky Saints on the Sept. 11, 2026 episode of WWE SmackDown in Mexico City. Saints had plenty of answers for the champion, but Fenix had one final move up his sleeve.
Saints controlled portions of the opening stretch, repeatedly pausing to hit his trademark “Absolute” pose while keeping Fenix grounded. He also took the fight outside, using the barricade to wear down the champion before returning to the ring.
Fenix eventually shifted the momentum with his trademark aerial offense. A springboard Frankensteiner sent Saints crashing to the mat, followed by a moonsault and “Adios Amigo” that knocked the challenger to the floor.

Fenix continued the attack with an Orihara moonsault before returning Saints to the ring. A crossbody earned a near-fall, but Saints answered with a powerbomb and later connected with the Revolution DDT — neither was enough to put the champion away.
The closing sequence saw both men trade counters. Saints avoided a handspring Stunner attempt and later connected with a superkick, only for Fenix to answer with one of his own. The champion then found the opening he needed.

Fenix hit the Mexican Muscle Buster and secured the three-count, retaining the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. The lucha libre star had survived Saints’ challenge, but there was little time to celebrate.
After the match, Fenix offered Saints a handshake. Saints refused the gesture, instead walking away while repeatedly checking his teeth.
Fenix now moves directly into his next title defense at AAA TripleMania 34. He’ll put the championship on the line in a four-way match against Nathan Frazer, Jack Cartwheel and Mini Vikingo.
With Saints dealt with, Fenix’s title reign rolls on — and the champion will need another trick from his lucha libre playbook when TripleMania arrives.
