Breanna Stewart will be sticking with the New York Liberty, the three-time WNBA champion revealed on her podcast Wednesday.

Speaking with co-host Myles Turner of the Milwaukee Bucks, Stewart said that while she is an unrestricted free agent this off-season, she’s not leaving town.

“I’m gonna just set the record straight here — I will be staying in New York,” Stewart said on “Game Recognize Game w/Stewie & Myles.”

“I’m not planning on taking any free agency meetings even though I am an unrestricted free agent. My family is set up here. We’re solid here. I’m going to be back in New York and that’s all there is to it.

“Good luck to everybody else in free agency, but I’m not a part of that.”

While Stewart did not reveal contract details and the Liberty have yet to officially make an announcement, it should result in a big payday.

With most WNBA veterans having signed deals that ran through the 2025 season, ahead of the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement, the 31-year-old Stewart is in line to benefit from the salary cap ceiling jumping from $1.5 million per team to $7 million, via the new agreement. Supermax contracts will also rise from around $250,000 to $1.4 million.

According to Spotrac, Stewart made $222,400 for the 2025 season.

Stewart has played the past three seasons with the Liberty after entering the league in 2016 with the Seattle Storm. Since coming to New York, Stewart has added to her accomplished résumé with a championship, league MVP, three All-Star appearances, two All-WNBA first teams, and two WNBA All-Defensive first teams.

Stewart was one of five key free agents this offseason for the Liberty, which includes the top scorers behind Stewart on the roster: Sabrina Ionescu (18.2 points per game, 5.7 assists), Jonquel Jones (13.6 points, 8.1 rebounds), Emma Meesseman (13.4 points) , and Natasha Cloud (10.1 points).

The Liberty has made the WNBA playoffs in each of Stewart's three seasons in New York, including the title-winning 2024 season. In 2025, the team finished in second place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-17 record and was eliminated in three games in the first round of the playoffs. Head coach Sandy Brondello was fired after three seasons and longtime Golden State Warriors assistant coach Chris DeMarco was brought on board as her replacement.
