Pre-Market Stock Futures:
Futures are trading mixed after a wild Wednesday saw all the major indices soar on a big Democratic victory that turned many traditionally Red states Blue. When the post-election dust settled, the legacy Dow Jones Industrials led the way, closing up a stunning 3.03% at 53,356, while the S&P 500 finished the session at 7,688, up 1.58%. The Nasdaq also rose sharply, closing up 1.44% at 25,736, despite many of the index's top technology stocks focused on AI or data centers finishing the day lower. The small-cap Russell 2000 also closed higher, up 1.58% at 2,856, as most companies in the index are based in the United States and investors feel they could benefit from Democrats taking power.
While Wall Street tends to lean politically agnostic, one thing is for sure: with a Republican President in the White House until 2028, and the Democrats in control of the House and Senate, investors can count on a fair amount of gridlock, and that's one scenario that should play well for the equity markets.
