Carrie Coon would love for Taylor Swift to join The Gilded Age, especially after she saw her impression of Bertha Russell.

“She’s so Bertha. I mean, she’s such an entrepreneur,” Coon gushed.

New episodes of The Gilded Age air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

Carrie Coon is ready for The Gilded Age (Taylor’s Version).

The Emmy-nominated actress reacted on Wednesday evening to Taylor Swift’s impersonation of her character, Bertha Russell, that the singer did during an October 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Host Jimmy Fallon mentioned that as the years go by, more and more of his guests talk about their love for the show, but Swift’s praise for the series stood out. “Don’t even get me started,” she said.

“It was the year of aggressively colorful skinny jeans,” Swift said in the 2025 clip, channelling her inner Bertha. “Everyone was walking around saying things were amazeballs. Mrs. Astor hated it.”

“That’s very good,” Coon declared, clapping. She noted that though she didn’t see the appearance in real time, she did hear about it not long after it aired.

“I woke up to thousands of text messages and Instagram [messages] like, ‘Can you believe it?’ You know, and I have to say, it’s very good. It’s the right affectation. And she’s so Bertha. I mean, she’s such an entrepreneur,” Coon told Fallon.

“Bertha would be like Taylor Swift if she was living today. Well, maybe not the singing bit.”

As for whether or not Swift should make a cameo on Gilded Age, Coon was game. “I saw her cameo at the Emmys; she was really great. So I feel like she’d be an excellent nemesis,” she mused. “Best friend? Maybe best friend. She can help me defeat Enid Winterton.”

Coon also spoke about the season 4 premiere cameo that broke the internet: David Letterman and Matt Damon’s blink-and-you-miss-it establishing shot outside the Russell home in New York. “I had no idea that was happening. I arrived on set and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, we’re just wrapping out David Letterman and Matt Damon.’”

“I was like, what? I was like, what are they doing here? I was like, do they have a speaking part? I mean, nothing, nothing.”

“They just showed up and slapped their little beards — well, his beard is real, I think,” she continued, referring to Letterman’s facial hair. “Matt was sweating his off.”

“But no, I had no idea they were coming, but how delightful. And I missed them. I was watching the show and I missed — I missed the cameo. I got to go back and watch it again,” concluded Coon.
