Chad Michael Murray had no idea he was stepping into some serious teen drama when he invited Hilary Duff to the premiere of *Freaky Friday*.

Murray shared that he "didn't know" there was a feud between Duff and fellow teen superstar Lindsay Lohan, which was rumored to have started over a love triangle involving the late pop star Aaron Carter. He invited the *Younger* star because they had to spend more time together to build chemistry for a kissing scene in *A Cinderella Story**.*

"How was I supposed to know there was a feud?" Murray asked during an appearance on Virgin Radio Toronto's *Daryn and Deepa*.

Duff recently revealed that she had been fighting with her "nemesis" Lohan at the time and decided to crash her premiere. The *Lizzie McGuire* star said that Murray, who plays Lohan's love interest Jake in *Freaky Friday,* had asked her to come along.

"I don't want to start any more stuff, but like he was like, 'You should come with me,'" Duff said on *Call Her Daddy* last month. "And I was like, 'Mhm, probably I should.'"

Murray said that he didn't understand their tension and only intended to hang out with Duff. At the time, he didn't expect the move to cause drama.

"Like nowadays, I can understand that we're so kind of in the know with social media that like, oh if you do that it's obvious," he said. "Back then, it wasn't obvious that it was a thing. I just thought two people are going to go hang out, cool, it's awesome."

Lohan got back at Duff by surprising her at the premiere of her film *Cheaper By the Dozen *in December that same year. Luckily, Duff said she and Lohan has since squashed the beef a long time ago, saying it "does not matter" now.

"Also, Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, 'Are we good?' And I was like, 'We're good.' She was like, 'Let's take a shot.' I was like, 'OK,'" Duff recalled fondly.
