Claire Danes is paying homage to My So-Called Life — using Amy Poehler to recreate a pivotal scene from the '90s teen drama.

On Monday, Jan. 26, the two teamed up for a social media video to promote the actress' appearance on the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler.

The video shows Poehler, 54, and Danes, 46, walking down a hallway when Danes suddenly grabs the comedian's hand.

The clip is an homage to a scene in episode seven of My So-Called Life, in which main character Angela (played by Danes) and her high school crush Jordan Catalano (played by Jared Leto) hold hands while walking down the hall of their high school, while other students look on.

Danes was catapulted to stardom after playing Angela Chase in the show, which lasted just one season and centered around a freshman girl’s experiences at school.

Speaking to Poehler about My So-Called Life, Danes said the show was "ahead of its time."

"It's still radical," Danes said. "And it remains ahead of this time. It shouldn't have been made. It almost wasn't made many times, and it just willed itself into existence."

She added: "It's not very often that we spend that much time, intimate time, with a teenage girl. We're really seeing the world from her — from inside of her — and really through her vantage point when she's so earnestly wrestling with big stuff, you know?"

In a speech delivered at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts annual gala in April 2025, Danes reflected on the show and its writer-creator, Winnie Holzman (who also wrote the screenplay for the Broadway musical Wicked).

“Oh my God, how lucky was I? I was 13 when I shot that pilot,” Danes said. “When I met this genius woman, this Cyrano, who wrote one perfect diary entry after another for me, who rescued me from the punishing halls of actual high school and transported me to the halls of self-reflection and art, of poetry and music."

“Who allowed me to be exactly as I felt I was not, who I was supposed to be, who I was supposed to see on TV,” she added.

Danes praised Holzman’s writing for being "so overwhelmingly intentional and coherent" that "no actor would have dared to riff on anything that was scripted."
