Dolly Parton released a cover of “Bound to Ride,” recorded alongside the First Ladies of Bluegrass.
The song is part of a tribute album honoring the Stanley Brothers, which comes out Oct. 16.
Before her death, Parton had plans to posthumously release various projects.
Here she comes again.
Dolly Parton has released her first posthumous song following her death on Aug. 25. The late country singer recorded a cover of “Bound to Ride” alongside the First Ladies of Bluegrass as part of a tribute to the Stanley Brothers.
“Bound to Ride,” which was released on Sept. 9, will be featured on Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers, out Oct. 16.
The star-studded tribute album will also feature covers from country stars like Willie Nelson and Sierra Ferrell as well as an ode to the brothers’ comedy routine by Steve Martin and Ed Helms, according to Rolling Stone. The outlet reported that this project has been years in the making, with Parton recording the song at home in 2022.
Parton died at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. The news of her cancer diagnosis came as a surprise to fans and even some family members, as her sister Stella Parton explained that she had kept her health issues private.
“Dolly did not want anybody to tell that because Dolly could not bear negative things,” Stella said during a sit-down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. “She would not have wanted her fans worried about it.”

Although Parton has passed, she left behind several projects that were in the works. Her longtime manager Danny Nozell confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the team in charge of “overseeing her legacy” will be working to bring those unfinished works to fruition.

“Dolly worked up until the day she died. She loved seeing her dreams come to life, and loved knowing her work brought people joy,” he told EW in a statement on Aug. 26. “Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come.”

And six years before her death, the “Jolene” singer had shared her plans to release music posthumously. She revealed that she had “hundreds, hundreds, even thousands of songs and a big part of them haven’t even been recorded.”
“There’s enough stuff to go on forever with my music: to do compilation albums, to do, actually, new and original stuff, and I am purposely trying to put songs down for that very purpose,” she said on the podcast Dolly Parton’s America in 2020. “To have a click track and my vocals, to where any arrangement can be done. So I think ahead.”
