It seems that no one knows what Dolly Parton looks like without makeup ā not even her sister Stella.
The late country starās sister made the revelation during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings while speaking about her sisterās legacy. When King asked if Stella ever saw the āJoleneā singer without makeup, Stella admitted that she hadnāt.
King, gobsmacked, followed up by asking if Stella indeed never saw her sister without makeup.Ā āNot after she got to be āDolly Parton,āā Stella clarified. āShe would sleep in her makeup when sheād come spend the night with me.ā
King then asked Stella if she ever requested to see her sister without her makeup. āOh, I knew what she looked like. She looked like me without her makeup,ā Stella said, laughing. āSo I knew what she looked like without it.ā

Stella and Dolly had a close relationship. Elsewhere in the CBS Mornings interview, she spoke about how they would catch up together every Tuesday morning on the phone over coffee. āHer optimism is what Iām gonna miss the most. She was the most optimistic person I ever met. Iām gonna miss that,ā she said.
Stella added that she will remember Dolly as āa sweet, kind, loving, brilliant [person], and so talented.ā āHer creativity had no bounds. She could dream bigger than anybody.ā
The ā9 to 5ā singer was famous for her glamorous makeup ā and unapologetic about her look. She told Voguein 2020 that she likes āto wear a lot of makeup.ā āI think more is more and whoever made up that āless is moreā is full of it.ā
Dolly also admitted to Bustle in 2024 that even when sheās sitting around at home, she likes to wear makeup.

āIt makes me feel better all day. Sometimes when Iām on a writing binge, Iāll have makeup on to start with, but I donāt worry about it after that. So, there are times when Iām not conscious of it or dwelling on the fact that āOh, I should get up and put on some makeup.āā
Added Parton, āIf Iām going to go outside the house, I will definitely wear makeup. And usually, if Iām not writing, Iāll get up, put on my makeup, and fix my hair a little bit. Even if Iām off that day, I never know whoās going to come to my door, and I donāt want to go to the door looking like a hag.ā

Days later, Stella shared her own tribute on Instagram. āIf anyone gets to heaven Iām sure she made it right on time,ā she wrote. āI know sheās showing out big time, in all her sparkles and shine. That was my sisterās way.ā
Stella called Dolly āone of the most generous, thoughtful and kind people Iāve ever knownā: āWhat the world saw was exactly who she was.ā

āDolly loved the world and everyone in it,ā she continued. āI would criticize and complain about it and she would laugh and say, āshoot, Tedda, weāve got more important things to do than worry about their silly asses.ā She was right, and she proved it every day.ā
