Gwyneth Paltrow is clarifying her arugula comments that she made in May about using the leafy green as a dairy substitute.

The Oscar winner meant to say parmesan cheese as opposed to referring to the greater world of dairy products.

“I don’t know why I said dairy, but, I said dairy and the internet collapsed,” she concluded.

Gwyneth Paltrow has seen your comments about using arugula as a dairy substitute.

Months after the Oscar winner appeared on the Todayshow and used arugula in turkey meatballs instead of dairy and the internet shared their thoughts, Paltrow is clarifying what she meant.

“You know what? I said dairy instead of parmesan cheese. So this was my mistake,” she addressed her fans on TikTok after reviewing the original viral moment.

“What I meant to say is — and this is a great trick — if you’re dairy-free, and you’re making meatballs and you don’t want to put parmesan cheese in them, dice up arugula and put it in. It gives it this extra dimension of flavor,” she said. “I don’t know why I said dairy, but, I said dairy and the internet collapsed.”

Fans rushed to the comments to address Paltrow’s clarification. “[Gwyneth] this has been eating me alive since thank you so much for clearing it up,” one fan quipped. “Oh you’re doubling down on that 😭😅,” a second wrote.

“I like how you’re holding yourself accountable 😂,” a third chimed in.

One fan defended Paltrow, writing, “I always put chopped spinach in my meatballs for extra filler, its delicious. People were purposely being obtuse.”

In the original clip, where Paltrow cooked dairy meatballs alongside Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly, she shared her arugula “trick.”

After the episode aired, the internet did indeed collapse. “Hello police? I need to report a crime?” one person commented on the Today show’s Instagram video of the segment. “Wood chips would add a nice texture too,” another chided.

“I just added arugula to my morning coffee--in lieu of dairy--in my stories, feel free to see how it turned out,” Food Network personality and Today guest cohost Sunny Anderson quipped in the comments section.

Paltrow’s wellness and lifestyle brand Goop stood behind her comments.

“In our defense, it’s very versatile,” the brand’s Instagram account posted the following day with a picture of cookies and a nice cool glass of — you guessed it — arugula.
