Comedian Jimmy Kimmel had some serious words for President Donald Trump on Tuesday's edition of *Jimmy Kimmel Live*, which fell on the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The host noted the date of the insurrection, following President Joe Biden's win over Trump in the 2020 election for president, early on.

"I think it's very important that we do not forget that, that we don't give in to this revisionist history," Kimmel said. "Five years ago today, we saw proof in front of our eyes that the American president is as un-American as they come. So I just wanted to mention that before I wish you all a happy Jan. 6. Happy stormeversary, everybody!"

Kimmel called out Trump for trying to "overthrow our government in a pathetic and illegal attempt to stay in the White House."

Kimmel lauded Mike Pence for choosing "the Constitution over his running mate" by certifying election results that Trump would not.

"Trump got his supporters all riled up and sent them to the Capitol, where they staged a violent and deadly riot, which he enjoyed from the comfort of his office for hours on television until someone in his circle begged and pleaded with him to half-heartedly call them off. It was a selfish, disgraceful, tyrannical, and dangerous act."

The White House's official Instagram account told a much different story: "Thousands of Americans paid the price for failures they didn't create. President Trump delivered pardons. Pelosi admitted responsibility. The media lied."

The administration also published a timeline on the White House website that, as ABC News noted, "grossly mischaracterized events" of what happened after Trump insisted the election had been stolen from him. Protesting Trump supporters were "orderly" and "peaceful," administration officials claimed.

In the attack, several people died, and more than 100 law enforcement officials were hurt. When Trump was inaugurated for his second term, he pardoned over 1,500 rioters who were convicted or charged in the attack, some of whom have subsequently been arrested for other crimes.
