Kate’s most expensive piece is the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, created in 1935 for Queen Elizabeth, and carrying a price tag over $50 million.
There are many benefits to being a princess—marrying a handsome prince, castles and country homes at your disposal, designers dying to dress you—but don’t discount the perks of a royal jewelry collection. The Princess of Wales has an impressive collection of knockout necklaces, statement earrings, and dazzling bracelets, which come with eye watering price tags and unique historical significance.
Kate’s over-the-top jewelry collection is made up of a combination of official gifts, family heirlooms, and items borrowed from the Royal Collection. Emily Andrews, co-host of Channel 5’s Catching Up with the Royals, revealed on Instagram that “there are actually big wardrobes in Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace” where “jewelry and tiaras that are owned by the monarch that female members of the family wear, are all labeled on their own shelf.”
Like a scene from The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement, Kate’s most-worn royal jewels sit on a shelf, waiting for the next state banquet or royal film premiere. Scroll on to see the most expensive pieces from the Princess of Wales’s glittering jewelry collection.

Estimated value: $30,000
Kate Middleton regularly reaches for these statement earrings that add a touch of color to her look. “The Queen Mother’s sapphire and diamond fringe earrings have a very different appeal from more structured pieces of jewelry,” Justin Daughters, Managing Director at Berganza, explains to Instyle. “The movement of the drops gives them a sense of fluidity, while the contrast between blue sapphires and bright diamonds creates depth and definition.” The style is playful and versatile, working well with ball gowns and daytime dresses.

The Art Deco Diamond Choker Bracelet

Estimated value: $350,000
The Princess of Wales doesn’t often opt for a bracelet, but when she does they always pack a punch. Queen Mary’s Diamond Choker has been adapted as a bracelet, often worn by the Princess of Wales for state banquets and big occasions. “Queen Mary’s diamond choker bracelet is an interesting example of historic jewelry being adapted and worn in different ways,” says Justin. The shimmering piece looks like a solid design of pavé diamonds, but is actually an art deco style featuring geometric shapes and design. “The structured arrangement of the diamond bars gives it a clean, elegant appearance, while its versatility makes it feel relevant to contemporary royal dressing.”

Greville Ruby & Diamond Floral Bandeau Necklace

Estimated Value: $500,000
The Greville ruby and diamond necklace is one of the bigger statement pieces that the Princess of Wales has chosen from the Royal Collection. Floral in design, unmissable in style, and rich in history, the necklace was carefully chosen by the princess after decades of collecting dust. According to Steven Stone, the necklace was given to Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift. It was initially longer in design, but the late monarch adapted the style to make it more wearable. By the late 1980s, it disappeared into the royal vaults, and only reappeared when Kate Middleton wore the style to the Spanish state banquet in 2017.

Princess Diana’s Sapphire Engagement Ring

Estimated value: $525,000
Has there ever been such an iconic engagement ring? “Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring is one of the most recognizable pieces of modern royal jewelry, and its legacy continues through Kate’s engagement ring,” Justin Daughters explains. While the size and quality of the 12-carat Ceylon blue sapphire and fourteen surrounding diamonds would be expensive on their own, the ring’s history makes it significantly more valuable. “The ring’s royal history contributes considerably to its significance, while the gemstone quality and enduring design help explain its lasting appeal.”

Kate Middleton’s Mouawad Ruby and Diamond Fringe Necklace

Estimated value: $1.5-2 million
When Kate Middleton stepped out on the red carpet a few months after the 2011 royal wedding for The Sun Military Awards, all eyes were on her enormous fringe necklace. The diamond and ruby design is believed to be a private wedding gift, which remained a closely guarded secret until an unsuspecting Instagram account posted about the necklace and matching earrings—later seen on Kate in March 2020. “The Mouawad ruby and diamond fringe necklace stands out for its contrast of vivid color and brilliance,” Justin notes. “The diamonds provide sparkle and definition, while the rubies introduce a rich red tone that gives the necklace its distinctive character.”

Kate Middleton’s Square Cut Emerald Suite

Estimated Value: $1.5-2 million
The enormous square-cut emerald earrings with cascading diamonds first worn by Kate Middleton to the 600th-anniversary gala dinner for the University of St Andrews in New York City were hard to miss. The provenance of the collection remains unknown, but appears to be privately owned by the princess. The suite consists of a substantial necklace with detachable drop, earrings that can be worn as a long or short style, and bracelet. The sheer size of the emeralds and the diamond design would make eyes water—and I imagine they make Kate’s earlobes ache.

The Greville Chandelier Earrings

Estimated value: $2 million
The Princess of Wales clearly plays favorites with some pieces of royal jewelry, and these earrings must be her most-worn—and the most expensive. “The Greville chandelier earrings are a striking example of how diamond cuts and arrangement can influence the overall impact of a piece,” according to Justin. The shimmering, dangling earrings are a perfect chandelier design, optimizing any ball gown style or tiara moment. The earrings are often worn to the Princess of Wales’s most iconic red carpet and formal occasions. The Greville chandelier earrings are Kate Middleton’s most expensive earrings, thanks to the hefty collection of diamonds.

2. The Delhi Durbar Emerald Choker

Estimated Value: $20 million
A uniquely colorful necklace with a rich history, the Delhi Durbar emerald choker is one of the Royal Collection’s more memorable styles. The Princess of Wales gave this necklace a royal outing at the Earthshot Prize Awards in December 2022, but it is impossible to forget Princess Diana’s iconic styling of the choker as a headband. Garrard reports that the emeralds in the design were a gift from the Ladies of India, and the piece was later inherited by Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch gave the emerald and diamond choker to Princess Diana as a wedding gift, and it is now worn by Princess Diana’s daughter-in-law, Kate.

The Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace

Estimated value: $50-80 million
Kate Middleton’s most expensive jewelry piece is the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, which carries a rich history and a rich price tag. “The Nizam of Hyderabad necklace is an extraordinary example of Cartier high jewelry,” Justin Daughter explains. “Created in 1935, it was presented to the then-Princess Elizabeth as a wedding gift in 1947 by the Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. Kate has worn the necklace on loan from the late Queen Elizabeth II, including at the National Portrait Gallery Gala in 2014 and the Diplomatic Corps reception in 2019.” The statement necklace features 38 diamonds with a detachable pendant incorporating 13 more diamonds. The size, quality, and craftsmanship lend to the high price estimates, but the royal provenance makes it truly invaluable.
