Princess Catherine once made a poignant observation to Prince William and Prince Harry, just a few years before their rift became publicly apparent.

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK last month and is currently believed to be in Oxfordshire with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The formerly inseparable brothers are understood not to have communicated for several years, with William having no intention of meeting his brother during his UK stay. In 2017, Catherine joined her husband and brother-in-law for a candid discussion about mental health, as part of their collaborative Heads Together charity initiative.

They spoke about their tight brotherly bond, with Catherine highlighting how "lucky" they were to have each other, particularly following the tragic death of their late mother.

Catherine told Harry and William: "Considering everything that you boys sadly went through and the trauma that you experienced.... I do think it's incredible how strong and how you've been able to cope, really, and I put that down to your really early years childhood experience but also the relationship that you've got. You're amazingly close."

William then playfully responded: "Most of the time," to his wife's remark about being close to Harry. She then emphasized the point, "Some families sadly aren't as lucky as you guys have been.", reports the Express.

William then said: "We have been brought closer because of the circumstances as well; that's the thing you know you are uniquely bonded because of what we've been through."

The brothers were aged just 12 and 15 when their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, tragically lost her life in a car accident in Paris in August 1997.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex came back to the UK last month, after residing in California since 2020.

The pair resigned from royal responsibilities six years ago and established a new life in the US, but have recently chosen to return.

However, the couple will not be resuming royal duties, as King Charles has now confirmed in a statement issued on Monday.
