Katy Perry has publicly criticized the Donald Trump administration. This came after the White House used her 2010 hit “Firework” in a social media video featuring footage of military strikes. The clip was posted Thursday on the White House’s official TikTok account. It showed explosions while lyrics including “boom, boom, boom” played in the background. It carried the caption: “Iran has been warned” (via The Daily Beast).

The singer responded Saturday in a statement shared on X, making it clear she had no involvement with the post. Perry said she was “deeply appalled and angry.” The singer stressed that she was never contacted for permission and did not support the video’s message. She called the use of the song “a complete violation” of everything it was meant to represent.

Explaining why the video upset her, Perry said “Firework” was created as a message of hope, healing and inner strength for people facing difficult moments in their lives. Seeing those themes attached to scenes of “destruction and violence,” she said, completely contradicted the song’s purpose. Perry added that her music intends to unite people, not to celebrate conflict or warfare.

The latest controversy comes at a time when Perry’s personal life has also been grabbing plenty of attention. After her relationship with Orlando Bloom ended last year, she confirmed her romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The pair made their first official red carpet appearance together at the 2026 Tribeca Festival in June. There, Perry affectionately called Trudeau the “love of my life.”
