Lindsey Vonn is carving out space for something new.
The Olympic alpine ski racer, 42, shared a once-private part of her life with her social media followers when she debuted her relationship with athlete Matthieu Bailet, a fellow alpine ski racer, on Instagram this past September.
At the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards on Monday, Nov. 2, Vonn, who wore Gabriela Heart to the star-studded event, told PEOPLE that she’s ready to be more open about her love life, while still being cautious about keeping boundaries — basically, she’s toeing a happy medium.
“I think in my past it’s kind of been mixed of keeping things private and maybe oversharing,” the athlete said. “I’m trying to strike a nice balance.”

Vonn further shared that she’s “really happy” about where things are heading with 30-year-old Bailet, a World Cup champion who she calls an “amazing boyfriend.”
“He’s awesome and I wanted to share that. People know now I’m dating someone and I’m happy, but I’m not going to share too much moving forward,” she clarified.

When Vonn made her relationship Instagram-official, she included a photo of her and Bailet soaking up the sun this past summer. Photos of the two showed them sharing a kiss in a pool overlooking mountains while another showed them cuddling in a hammock with a water view.
Rumors about the sports world’s new coupling first began this past May. An exclusive source told PEOPLE that the pair were “getting to know each other” after they were spotted together in New York City.

The couple were seen shopping in SoHo and riding the subway together, along with posing backstage at The Outsiders musical on Sunday, May 10. Vonn, who was in town for the Met Gala earlier that week, also posted a flirty side-eye comment on one of Bailet’s recent shirtless Instagram posts.
And while she’s basking in the joys of quality time with Bailet, Vonn is focused on her health amid her ongoing recovery from her horrifying crash that had her flipping through the air during the 2026 Milan Olympics women’s downhill final in February, which she competed in just one week after tearing her left ACL.

“This hopefully will be my last surgery, this will be my ninth surgery, and I’m looking forward to moving past this,” she explained.
Vonn then reflected on making her runway debut in Paris this past September. “It’s ironic because at the L’Oreal Paris show, I finally felt confident enough to show my scars fully and now I’m going to open them all back up. Back to square one, but it’s okay. It happens. It’s life. We’ll move forward.”
In July, Vonn opened up to PEOPLE about her lengthy recovery. “It’s been a very slow process,” she said at the time when her ankle was still “broken.” “It’s been five months since I’ve been able to actually go to the gym in a somewhat meaningful way. And walking is actually still really hard for me.”
