Millie Bobby Brown has made a name for herself in Hollywood, but outside of acting, she’s devoted much of her time to a different passion: rescuing dogs. Since moving to a farm in rural Georgia in 2022, the Stranger Things star has launched her own animal rescue organization, Joey’s Friends, where she and her team care for dogs in need of permanent homes.
The actress, 22, has taken a hands-on approach to running the rescue, which focuses on taking dogs out of local shelters and fostering them until they’re ready for adoption. In a February 2025 interview with Vanity Fair, Brown revealed that she had even been studying veterinary care to better understand how to treat the animals herself.
“I’m able to treat wounds, take their pulse, moderate blood pressure, things like that. I do all their medical records myself,” she told the outlet, adding that her next step was completing an externship involving veterinary procedures.

Brown also emphasized that making a difference for rescue animals requires more than simply sharing adoption posts online. “Adoption campaigns [on social media] are wonderful temporarily, but you really have to get in there and do the work to make a difference,” she said.
According to the Joey’s Friends website, the organization focuses on rescuing animals that have experienced abuse, neglect or the threat of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. Along with providing a safe place to stay, the team works to address each dog’s physical and emotional needs before matching them with a family.
In March 2026, Brown celebrated another milestone for the organization when she hosted its first annual gala, bringing supporters together to highlight the importance of animal rescue. Reflecting on the event in an Instagram post, she shared how much the evening meant to her and the mission she has been building.
“Last night we hosted the first annual gala for my dog rescue. It was an incredible evening filled with community, compassion, and purpose,” she wrote. “Most importantly, we raised awareness for rescue dogs and the importance of second chances.”
Along with the dogs she fosters, Brown also shares her Georgia property with a variety of her own pets and farm animals, including cats, goats, a donkey, a pony, a sheep and a rabbit. She lives on the farm with her husband, Jake Bongiovi, and has previously explained that her desire to care for more animals was a major reason she moved out of her parents’ home.

During a 2024 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Brown recalled asking her parents for another dog when she turned 18, only to be told there wasn’t enough room.
“I was living with them, then when I turned 18 I was like, ‘I want another dog,’ ” she said. “And they were like, ‘No, you can’t fit any more dogs in your room.’ ”

Rather than give up on the idea, Brown moved next door and began creating a home that could accommodate her growing collection of animals. Although the property might sound like a peaceful retreat, the actress has been open about the reality of caring for so many pets while balancing her acting career.

“You think this place is peaceful. But there’s so much chaos,” she told Vanity Fair. “My animals are loud, and it’s messy and my dogs are crazy.”
Still, Brown has made it clear that the busy environment is exactly what she enjoys, describing her home as a place filled with laughter, excitement and activity.
“There is so much chaos, and that is where I thrive,” she said.
