While YouTube star MrBeast recently tied the knot with his fiancée, Thea Booysen, his former staff accused him of toxicity.
The internet personality, whose real name is James Stephen Donaldson, got married to Booysen on Richard Branson’s private Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, speaking with Business Insider, his former staffers shared some unflattering opinions about MrBeast.
Revealing the truth behind his upbeat, nice-guy persona, MrBeast’s former employees unveiled the toxic work environment, his use of inappropriate slurs, and the lack of credit.
MrBeast’s Former Employees Unveil His Toxicity
While MrBeast boasts over 500 million subscribers on YouTube through his high-energy, outrageous prank videos and social experiments, his former staffers revealed the reality of working for him
Speaking with Business Insider in August 2025, one employee who remained anonymous reflected on his “specific editing requirements.” He further noted how the 28-year-old uses his YouTube analytics.
“He has very specific editing requirements for his editors, not just how much you get done or how fast, but how many seconds into a video are you showing the super funny thing that happens,” the staff said.
The former employee added that MrBeast uses YouTube analytics where there are “super detailed graphs for every video that show the exact second we lose a viewer on every single video.”
Meanwhile, in 2021, Matt Turner, a former editor for the 28-year-old, confided in the NY Times how his boss was the complete opposite of what people saw onscreen.
Turner accused MrBeast of using inappropriate slurs toward him, and even claimed that his work was not acknowledged. “I was not to be credited for anything I did. I’d ask for credit, he’d credit someone else,” he said.

Additionally, software developer Ryan Morey claimed that the 28-year-old “takes a lot of inspiration directly from Elon Musk for better or for worse. It’s the cult of personality, all ambition all the time.”
MrBeast Gets Married to Thea Booysen on a Private Island
However, despite the allegations about his workplace culture, MrBeast is making headlines for his private island wedding with fiancée Thea Booysen.
In an Instagram post, the 28-year-old U.S. content creator announced that he has “found MrsBeast,” while posing in white.
After getting engaged on Christmas Day 2024, he and Booysen had their nuptials on Richard Branson’s private Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.
Much like he had previously told People that he would have a “really private and intimate” proposal and small wedding, MrBeast had exactly that kind of wedding.
Meanwhile, Booysen previously told People how she met James Donaldson after he DMed her on X, asking if he could read her upcoming book, The Marked Children.
“I thought YouTubers were just sort of a persona, but when I met him, I was quite surprised to see that he’s actually a nice guy. He wasn’t sitting there with an ego,” she said.
