New details regarding the death of Ellen DeGeneres Show executive producer Matthew Wright have been revealed.

Wright died at 52 on Oct. 30 in “an unfathomable tragedy.”

“Everyone loved him. I loved him,” DeGeneres said.

New details into Matthew Wright’s death have been revealed.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show executive producer “died suddenly but peacefully in his sleep,” according to a new obituary on the GoFundMe page created to help with funeral expenses.

“The sun may have prematurely set for our magical Matty, but his memory lives on in all of the sky’s vibrant colors,” the obit added to the fundraiser reads. “He would want everyone to remember his most important rule of living —don’t forget to course it out.”

Wright’s family confirmed via the GoFundMe page that he died at 52 on Oct 30. The site initially revealed that his death came following “an unfathomable tragedy.” Further details about his cause of death have not yet been revealed.

Wright is survived by husband Justin Fusella, father David Wright, sister Mandy Wright, and niece Samantha Wright, among other family members.

“As many of you know, Matt & Justin were both laid off this summer,” the webpage read, referring to Wright’s husband. “And the unexpected costs of getting Matt home, a funeral and a memorial are impossible for the family to bear.”

Wright was working in Los Angeles when he died, the GoFundMe revealed. His family and friends are local to New York.

“If Matt has ever made you laugh, said an encouraging word right when you needed it, or ordered one too many appetizers for the enjoyment of the whole table, now is the time to repay the favor,” the site read. “Please donate what you can and share this with anyone who’s been in the orbit of Matt’s huge heart. And when you’re at dinner and see a sunset, know that Matt is looking down, loving you, but wildly disappointed in what you ordered.”

Several members of The Ellen DeGeneres Show team reacted to Wright’s death on social media. Wright worked on the talk show for 16 years before it ended in 2022.

Andy Lassner, who also produced the talk show, saw Wright “hours” before his death on Thursday.

“We are all in shock. He was a brilliant producer and an even better human being,” Lassner shared on Instagram alongside a selfie with Wright. “My heart breaks for his husband, Justin, his family, and all of us who loved him. I was so lucky to work beside Matt for so many years and to call him my friend. We should have had so much more time with him.”

Ellen DeGeneres held back tears in an Instagram video on Nov. 2 as she reacted to the “shocking” news. The former talk show host called Wright “an amazing guy” in her tribute. “He was funny. God, he made me laugh,” she said. “He would surprise me with things that he did all the time. He was smart. He was kind. He was the part of our show that — I mean, everyone loved him. I loved him.”

DeGeneres added, “We’re gonna miss him. He is and always will be the glue to our entire family at the Ellen show.”
