Rachel Maddow Drinks From A Tankard Of Wine For Midterm Eve 'Salvation' On MS NOW

MS NOW host Rachel Maddow drank Chardonnay from a tankard with New Yorker editor David Remnick on Monday to toast his take on President Donald Trump and the midterm elections.

Maddow broke out the bottle after quoting from an essay in which Remnick warned, “It is difficult to reckon with the idea that a President might be not merely shambolic and incompetent but something far darker, even evil.”

“[Even] on the left, [some] insisted that those who thought of Trump as aberrant and sought nightly salvation in a tankard of Chardonnay and ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ ignored America’s complicated legacy,” she continued, still reading from his article. “Was Trump really so much worse than his predecessors?”

Reaching down for a bottle and a beer-sized mug, Maddow proclaimed, “You know the tankard is an underrated vessel for wine. I think it really lets it breathe.”

She poured to the top of the tankard, saying, “I’m just gonna take this to its logical conclusion.” She then poured one for herself.

The two caved to their thirst minutes later.

Remnick expressed hope that Trump will occupy himself with less impactful pastimes. “Maybe he’ll get interested in toy ships next,” he snarked.

“Well I’ll say there’s one other thing we can count on, David,” Maddow declare as they clinked tankards.

“This is a lot of wine,” he said.

“You were the one who raised the issue of tankards,” she said.

And the two drank.

Perhaps the high stakes demanded it.

“We have to prepare fo ourselves for what happens after this president faces what is likely to be the last real check by voters of his presidency ever,” Maddow said earlier.
