The actress said she feels adopting Kodi is "Mongo's way of coming back" to her
Sara Sampaio has a new furry friend in her life.
Sampaio, 34, announced via Instagram that she adopted a new dog named Kodi on Thursday, Dec. 11. In her post, the little black dog wears a red harness and a light blue harness, enjoys a treat, and cuddles up to the Superman actress.
Kodi's adoption comes seven months after her beloved dog Mongo went missing. "After Mongo went missing the thought of ever getting a new dog felt wrong and scary, I’m still grieving him and still hoping one day he gets back to me if he’s still out there," Sampaio wrote.
The model and actress continued, "Losing him with no closure was the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life. They say God, or the Universe or whatever you believe in, gives the clingiest and cuddliest dogs to those who never felt like anyone’s first choice.
"That’s been my dogs. Dogs are the only ones I feel that love me the same way that I love. My dogs are everything to me," she wrote. "So losing Mongo was like losing that love."
She added that she feared "would never be able to feel that again." Amid the loss of Mongo, Kodi offered Sampaio solace, and adopting him felt like "Mongo's way of coming back" to her. "And that’s where Kodi comes along. I started warming up to the idea of getting a another dog, but honestly felt scared until I saw Kodi’s picture at the @thelabellefoundation instagram. And let me tell you I fell in love right away and I knew he was mine."
The actress added that Kodi "reminds me a lot of Mongo" and that "they both have very similar personalities."
"I’m not someone to believe in these things really, but for right now it brings some joy and peace and slowly Kodi has already started to heal me. Because I felt that love again," she concluded the emotional post.

Fellow dog lover Paris Hilton chimed in, writing in the comment section, "Happy for you sis🥹🐶 What a beautiful bby🥰." Sampaio's Superman costar Maria Gabriela De Faria wrote, "He is perfect and this IS Mongo’s way of coming back to you. Because love is never destroyed but transformed. Welcome home baby boy!"
Sampaio later posted a side-by-side of Kodi and Mongo on her Instagram Stories. "Would've been besties," she wrote.
The At Midnight star had originally shared with her Instagram followers that her pup went missing on April 29. Despite posting a missing dog flyer and offering a $10,000 reward, Mongo has still not been found.
