Regina Hall and Anna Faris star in 'Scary Movie' in 2000

Regina Hall couldn’t have imagined that the world would get another installment of the Scary Movie franchise in the 2020s.

"I think comedy and maybe the limits that you can push have changed," Hall tells Gerrad Hall, host of Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast. "To where it's like, 'Could we even do Scary Movie 1 now? Can we hack this man? Can we have balls coming out? Can we have a d--- in an ear?' Boy, did we get to do it at a great time."

And yet, she and Anna Faris, her costar on the first four movies — the fifth that came out in 2013 had a different cast — have just filmed a sixth, Hall says in Thursday's edition.

The One Battle After Another actress said the return of brothers Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans, who will write and produce the horror parody, has made all the difference. The Wayans brothers left the franchise they started after the first few films.

Hall saw similarities to those movies in the script for the latest.

"I think when I heard about it, I was like, 'Oh, wow,'" Hall remembers. "And then when I read it, I was like, 'Oh, boy, the Wayans are back. They've done it again."

For Hall, the involvement of the Wayans brothers is "the only way [the reboot] works."

The comedies depict Hall as Brenda, the best friend of Faris' Cindy, the central characters in a group of friends experiencing a funnier version of the horror depicted in movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream.

Hall answered the question of whether Brenda is still sex-crazed, as she was in the 2000s.

"In a different way, but, yeah, she's still crazy, I'll tell you that much. And she's still Cindy's best friend," Hall says, noting that Brenda had always been "willing to throw Cindy under the bus."

Regina Hall is returning to the 'Scary Movie' franchise

She teases that making the long-awaited popcorn flick had "been fun."

"I don't know that any of us have fared well," Hall says of the characters. "I can't say that we are having shining moments as life has moved, but we're probably not far from where you would expect."

The latest Scary Movie is set to arrive in theaters June 12.
