- Jason Lewis, who famously played Smith on *Sex and the City*, has resurfaced in Costa Rica, three years after leaving Hollywood, to reveal he's writing a nine-book "epic fantasy" series.

- The former actor says he wakes up at 4 a.m. and writes between 1,000 and 2,000 words every day.

- Lewis joined *Sex and the City *in 2003 as a love interest for Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones, and made his last appearance in 2010's *Sex and the City 2*.

A week after teasing there was "more to come," *Sex and the City *hunk Jason Lewis has revealed a shocking new life update: he's been living in Costa Rica writing a nine-book "epic fantasy" series.

Three years ago, the actor left Hollywood to pursue his dream of authoring three interconnected trilogies, each set in a different era in the same universe, all exploring themes of power, tyranny, and redemption. The saga is more *Lord of the Rings* than *Harry Potter*, he tells *The Hollywood Reporter*. "It's my own magic system based more in physics than the soft magic of casting spells and stuff like that," he says.

Lewis ended up in Costa Rica after making a list of what he needed to accomplish this goal: good food, a beach for surfing, and somewhere he could learn Spanish.

Every morning, he awakes at 4 a.m. and goes for a walk or run on the beach. After pouring a cup of coffee, Lewis then sits down at his desk to hit his daily goal of writing 1,000 to 2,000 words.

His approach to the series is less conventional: he started on book seven, and is currently working on its fourth draft.

"Truth be told, I think it started because of being a fan of *Star Wars* and other stuff where I thought, 'Oh yeah, let's just do this in reverse,'" Lewis, who does not yet have a publisher, tells *THR*.

"The first trilogy is an idealistic tale," he continues. "The middle one is when good intentions go terrible, when you become the monster so the monster can’t hurt you. And the last one is more of a redemption story. A more realistic worldview of doing our best with what’s handed to us."

Lewis' new creative venture comes more than two decades since he awed audiences, and Kim Cattrall's character Samantha Jones, with his physique as sexy model Jerry "Smith" Jerrod on *Sex and the City*.

While Lewis took on a mix of onscreen roles since his last appearance as Smith in 2010's *Sex and the City 2,* the actor hasn't appeared in a project since 2020. On May 21, Lewis took to a newly created Instagram account to address his absence while hinting at having something in the works.

"Three years ago, I went quiet. Not because I had nothing to say but because I had something to do," Lewis began his video. "The kind of creative work that doesn't leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that."

Per Lewis' IMDb, he has one upcoming project titled *Restaveks *that is in post-production. While the actor didn't address what he specifically has in the pipeline, he explained that "it's the kind of work that needs to find its people though."

"I'm still in it," Lewis added. "And I'm far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I've been doing. More to come."

Originally a model who appeared in campaigns for Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss, Lewis first appeared on HBO's hit series *Sex and the City *in 2003 in the season 6 premiere titled "Great Sexpectations."

Smith became a key love interest for Samantha, and remained on the series until it ended in 2004. He reprised his role in 2008's *Sex and the City: The Movie* and its 2010 sequel. Despite their passionate relationship throughout the series and films, the characters eventually broke up in the sequel due to Samantha feeling she was losing her independence by remaining in the relationship, famously telling Smith, "I love you, but I love me more."

Cattrall's iconic Samantha seemingly had faded from the *Sex and the City *universe herself when the actress said she didn't want to appear in the spinoff series *And Just Like That..*. Samantha's absence was explained as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Samantha having a falling-out, and the high-powered PR exec having relocated to London. However, the two eventually reconnected over the death of Carrie's husband, John James Preston (Chris Noth).

Samantha returned on screen for the season 2 finale, with Samantha calling Carrie to pay her respects to Carrie's iconic New York City apartment before she moved out.

After three seasons, *And Just Like That...* aired its final episode on Aug. 14, 2025.**
