Trinity Rodman has unveiled a bold new look ahead of boyfriend Ben Shelton’s US Open semi-final, but the USWNT star faces an awkward choice ahead of Sunday's final.

Shelton reached the US Open semifinals after a wild late-night victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. The American upset the defending champion 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7), with the match finishing at 3:33 a.m. ET, the latest finish in US Open history.

Shelton then defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinals to reach his first career Grand Slam final. He will face Alexander Zverev in Sunday's final. The German reached the championship match after beating Karen Khachanov in straight sets in the other semifinal.

Rodman has become a fixture at Shelton’s matches throughout the US Open and is rarely short of attention with her game-day looks. She had fans doing a double take during his semifinal clash with Tiafoe after arriving with a striking new red hairstyle.

Rodman had been sporting blonde hair when she watched Shelton’s marathon quarterfinal victory over Alcaraz. By the time she returned to the stands for his semifinal against Tiafoe, she had switched up her look and debuted the red hair.

Despite the late finish in New York, Rodman still managed to turn up 90 minutes early for Washington Spirit training in Virginia the following morning.

Sunday’s final could be the last Shelton match Rodman attends at this year’s US Open, with her upcoming soccer schedule set to limit her availability. The Spirit face the Boston Legacy at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 13, just an hour before the men’s US Open final gets underway in New York at 2 p.m. ET.

During Shelton’s semifinal clash with Alcaraz, ESPN analyst John McEnroe speculated that the Spirit forward could potentially make it to both her own match and the US Open final. "Maybe she scores a goal and rushes up (to New York)," McEnroe said.

While it appears unlikely, Rodman could theoretically catch at least part of the US Open final if the right circumstances fall into place. Shelton’s quarterfinal victory over Alcaraz lasted four hours and 28 minutes. If Sunday’s final matches that length, it would finish around 6:30 p.m. ET — three and a half hours after the Spirit’s game against the Legacy ends.

The flight from Washington, D.C., to New York takes around an hour, meaning a long final, private jet and favorable traffic and weather conditions could give Rodman a chance to reach Flushing Meadows before the match is over.

“It’s an important part of our relationship to be able to relate to each other through the different things we go through. Whether it’s media stuff, brand stuff, photoshoots, the pressures of competition and being professional athletes, it is very taxing,” Shelton said.

“Some people can say that it’s difficult to maintain a relationship where you have two professional athletes. But in my opinion, to have somebody who understands what you go through is very, very important.”
