Valerie Bertinelli is weighing in on “divorce rings.”
During the Tuesday, Jan. 27, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the celebrity chef, 65, joined Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews for a discussion on the trend of transforming a wedding ring into celebratory jewelry when the marriage ends.
Barrymore, 50, noted that divorce can be “a source of shame,” and the trend could be a way to “lift someone's spirits when they feel like they have failed.”
Barrymore was married to Jeremy Thomas from 1994 to 1995 and to Tom Green from 2001 to 2002. She married Will Kopelman in 2012, and the two welcomed two daughters together, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, 13, and Frankie Barrymore Kopelman, 11, before divorcing in 2016.
“It's as awful as anything I've ever experienced,” added Barrymore. “And so I saw this and I just thought, what a weird tone change like some empowerment, some rebelliousness."

Bertinelli agreed with that sentiment.
“It's like the celebratory part of it, because I mean there's a celebration of not being in that pain any longer, but there was love at one point between those I mean at some point,” she replied.
The Food Network alum pointed out that “so many divorces are so different.”
“I mean I've had two divorces and they were completely different,” she said. “My last divorce, I actually, I did go back to the jeweler and sell my ring back, and I got a celebratory like evil eye bracelet.”
The Indulge cookbook author was married to Van Halen frontman Eddie Van Halen from 1981 until 2007. Eddie died from cancer at age 65 in October 2020.
She was then married to her second husband, financial planner Tom Vitale, from 2011 until 2022.
Bertinelli previously revealed that she parted ways with the shoes she wore to marry Vitale.

The One Day at a Time star filed for divorce from Vitale in May 2022 after they legally separated in November 2021.
"Dropped a few things off with @therealreal," Bertinelli captioned a series of photos that included Jimmy Choo heels with diamond studs in September 2022. Bertinelli also held what appeared to be two wedding bands in front of a Tiffany & Co. box.
"A couple of Tiffany rings that have some bad memories attached and a pair of shoes I wore to a wedding in January 2011 😉," she said of the items, adding: "They should be up in a couple of weeks! ✨💖."
Last August, Bertinelli reflected on life without Van Halen, with whom she shares her son Wolfgang.
“Some days I really do miss you,” she wrote. “There will always be a loud absence in these gratifying sideline years.”
