His win makes Niall Horan an undefeated coach

The Voice has named its season 28 champion: Aiden Ross!

The Texas native was crowned during the second night of the live finale on Dec. 16, making Niall Horan an undefeated coach. He took home the crown after performing ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All" and JVKE's "Golden Hour" one day earlier.

Following his victory, Ross wrote on Instagram that he was at a "loss for words."

"I am filled with so much joy and gratitude. I’ve had the time of my life performing for you all this season, and I am beyond honored to be the Season 28 winner of The Voice 🏆," he wrote. "I’ve grown so much as an individual and an artist, met some of my best friends, and learned from the very best in the industry."

Meanwhile, Horan spoke to PEOPLE after the show and recalled telling Ross before the finale that "win or lose," he had an "exciting future" ahead of him.

"Aiden speaks about how much he loves this show all the time, how he's watched this since he was a kid," the former One Direction singer said. "So for him, I really, really, really wanted it."

So, who won The Voice? Here's everything to know about season 28 champion Aiden Ross.

Ross was born and raised in College Station, Texas, per The Battalion.

According to KAMU, Ross applied to The Voice during his senior year at A&M Consolidated High School. However, at the time, he didn't advance far into the audition process.

Ross wrote his first song at 7 years old

As Ross shared with KAMU, his passion for music began when he was 4 years old. He grew up singing with his family on their strawberry farm, with his sister harmonizing with him and his dad playing the guitar, per The Battalion.

He wrote his first song at the age of 7 and began performing at school talent shows — but it wasn't until his dad encouraged him that he picked up a guitar for the first time.

"Come seventh grade, my dad was like, ‘Okay, man, I’m tired of playing guitar, it’s your turn,' " Ross told The Battalion. "He put a guitar in my hands, and I couldn’t really put it down, and that really became my thing."

He is a college engineering student

Ross is a sophomore at Texas A&M University, where he studies industrial distribution engineering and is a member of several music organizations, including a student a cappella group known as Hardcore Dynamics, according to KAMU.

Although he is now a The Voice champion, Ross plans to complete his degree while continuing to pursue his passion for music.

"The decision on what I do after the show is based on what opportunities arise," he told the outlet. "If something in music pops up that is a viable opportunity, I will jump at it. If there’s a spark, I’m gonna fan that flame."

Ross continued, "I wouldn’t be where I am today without the Bryan-College Station community, so I feel like it’s a joint effort. I seriously am just so grateful to be where I am."

Ross sang Adele's "Love in the Dark" for his blind audition, which wowed the judges — including Horan, Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé and Reba McEntire — and led him to get the first four-chair turn of the season.

Following his performance, Horan shared that he admired how Ross took Adele's song and spun it into his own.

"It was literally like you had written the thing. When you hit some of those bigger notes, you hit them with ease, and that makes me excited now that you're 155% on the show and you're going to be on Team Niall, obviously," Horan said. "I've worked with similar voices to yours and had some success on the show previously. If you don't pick me, I wish I could turn this chair around and never turn it again."

Luckily for Horan, Ross chose to join Team Niall. Reflecting on his decision with KAMU, Ross said that the "Slow Hands" singer "writes and makes music that is most similar to the type of artist that [he aspires] to be."

He continued, "It was the right decision for me at the right time, and it’s been a great experience."

During his conversation with The Battalion, Ross opened up about the unique relationships he built with the other singers.

"It’s almost been like a summer camp because we were all cooped up together in a hotel, and so we had a lot of time to get to know each other, and we all became great friends," Ross said.

He continued, "I was pleasantly surprised to just see the quality of people on this show — really every person you see on that stage is a stand-up individual, everybody’s really special. There’s been a crazy amount of humility in this season, and I’ve just been blessed to be a part of it."

As for his relationship with Horan, Ross thanked him earlier in the show for believing in him throughout the season.

"The most important thing he’s taught me is to love what I'm doing and be glad that I'm doing it," Ross said of his coach.
