Otis has been sidelined indefinitely after suffering a brutal assault at the hands of Austin Theory on the July 27 episode of Monday Night RAW.
WWE confirmed the update later in the broadcast. The attack served as a major turning point for both Alpha Academy and The Vision heading into SummerSlam.
The announcement followed a chaotic post-match scene that left one fan favorite out of action and his allies searching for answers.
Austin Theory’s chair attack writes Otis off WWE television
The incident came after The Vision’s Austin Theory and Bron Breakker defeated Alpha Academy’s Akira Tozawa and Otis in tag team action. Despite the loss, Otis rushed back into the fight when Theory and Breakker attempted to continue their assault on Tozawa after the bell.
For a brief moment, Otis cleared the ring and looked ready to swing the momentum back in Alpha Academy’s favor. However, Maxxine Dupri — who recently turned on the group — climbed onto the apron. She distracted him just long enough for Theory and Breakker to recover.

The pair then planted Otis with a devastating double powerbomb before Theory escalated the attack even further. Ignoring the referee’s attempts to restore order, he grabbed a steel chair. Theory then drove it into Otis’ head against the ring post, leaving the powerhouse motionless.
Later in the show, backstage interviewer Byron Saxton confirmed that Otis had been ruled out indefinitely following the attack. WWE has also removed him from the active roster and placed him on the injured list as part of the storyline.
The angle significantly raises the stakes for The Vision ahead of SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Akira Tozawa has to carry the Alpha Academy banner alone if he wishes to exact revenge. It also adds another layer to Maxxine Dupri’s betrayal, which directly contributed to Otis being caught off guard.
Whether this chapter ends with payback remains to be seen. However, for now, Theory and Breakker have left their mark in the most painful way possible.
